Today in my Facebook feed my pictures of visiting Mt Vernon showed up. I had the opportunity to go to DC last year with my parents and the oldest grandkids. I love DC! I love the history that surrounds that place. On that trip my 2 favorite places were - Mt Vernon and Colonial Williamsburg. I've always been proud to be an American, but that trip made my love for America grow even more. I found a deeper respect for the men who were bold enough to stand for truth when it was time to become a country.
I asked a question on FB that said, "Where is our George Washington's today?" I ended up pondering on that question all morning long. Why would I say that and what did I mean by it?
I read the book The George Washington Hypothesis by Tim Ballard last year and was mesmerized by the type of man he depicted George Washington to be. I have always believed George Washington to be a great man, but I never realized how God fearing he was until I read the stories Tim Ballard provides. If you haven't read the book, go and do it now! Here is a link to it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/s?k=the+george+washington+hypothesis&crid=3P1MO90TXUMSP&sprefix=the+george+washing%2Caps%2C200&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_18
The pondering of George Washington's character led me to pose my question on FB because we need more God fearing people leading our country. We need men and women who are not afraid to go to the source of truth to know how to lead our country in a times, but especially in times of uncertainty. We need people who will take bold stands even when it's not popular or means they man be publicly shamed. We need people who aren't afraid to call the recent of the citizens to remember God.
With all my pondering, I realized that yes we need a change in government, but it won't change until we as a people start standing up and fearing God. We as the people need to remember why our country was built and what it stands for. We need to bring God back into all parts of government and nation. We need to remember Him and all the miracles that He performed for us to have this amazing nation.
Our Come Follow Me study in the Book of Mormon was about Alma trying to help the people of Ammonihah remember. He was trying to help them remember the tender mercies of God and the miracles he had performed for his people. Alma was bold enough to make a stand in his day. He was spat upon, beaten and imprisoned for it, yet he knew it was the only way to save the people.
There are many men and women throughout history who have made the bold stand to do what is right! Samual Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and many many others have stood up for what is right. Are we ready to boldly stand?
Am I ready to boldly stand? I find myself still scared to make big stances. I hate the conflict and the shaming that happens on FB when we post something that isn't popular. But it is time! I can no longer sit back quietly. For years I have sat here and watched our nation slowly sink. We are a torn nation, but I believe there is still greatness. Let's all turn to God! Let's hear what we need to specifically do to help our nation, and then lets act. When we act with God, miracles will happen. Doesn't mean it will be easy. Doesn't mean we won't ruffle some feathers. It just means that it's time to become whole again. Remember those who have stood before us. Remember they stood with God for the right. Let's do the same!
