You know those weeks that you are so busy you don't have time to breathe? That has been the last 2 weeks for me. So I'm sorry that I'm not posting on Sunday. I truly hope things calms down so I can get back into my normal routines.
I love that we are studying section 4 of the Doctrine and Covenants this week. It’s a section that I haven’t always paid much attention to since the mission. I memorized it in English and Portuguese and just figured it was enough. Then my friend suggested memorizing a verse from that section this week as a family. My kids have loved it so much we’ve been memorizing a different verse each night. It’s been a nice, engaging change of study for my kids.
While listening to Don’t Miss This today, I was reminded that God works with imperfect people to do His work. He is so merciful that he doesn’t wait for us to become perfect to call us to his work, he asks us to help him even in our imperfections.
What a breath of fresh air!! I try so hard to be perfect and to wait to do things till they are perfect that I miss out on the moments that lead up to the perfection! God focuses on the moments of becoming!
God can do his work without us. He is God! But he doesn’t because he wants to give us the learning opportunity. He wants us to grow. And in that growth he qualifies us to work with Him.
What does that even mean?!
Qualify means to fit by training, skill or ability for a special purpose; to be or become fit (Webster dictionary)
As we turn to God in our imperfections and continue to move forward on a day to day basis, he will give us the training, skill set and ability to do the work he wants each of us to perform.
We have each been called to a special work! That work is different for each one of us. It can be similar but it will be different in the fact that we are each different and unique. Own that! Don’t try to have it be the same as someone else! God doesn’t want it to be the same. He needs you! He needs me! And because he wants us both he will use us personally and in a way that we know to bless other people.
Trust that he will make up the difference even in our weaknesses. Trust that he will give you the ideas to do what he needs you to do. Trust that he will “qualify” you to His work.
Five years ago I bought a gymnastics gym. Gymnastics is my passion! I have coaches since I was 12 yrs old. It is a part of who I am. When I felt prompted to buy the gym, I had a strong impression that this would be the Lord's gym and I was to be his instrument in helping people recognize who they can become.
Well, I have never done been anything other then a gymnastics coach. I remember panicking as we moved forward with buying the gym. I didn't know how to manage people. I didn't know how to run a business. I wanted Zac to quit his job so he would take care of that part, but it wasn't so. I remember one day receiving a beautiful impression. I was told to trust that God knows how to run a business and He will teach me.
From that day forward I knew I just had to turn to Him in prayer and ask for the guidance. And do you know what? I have received it! There have been times I have had no clue had to handle a situation, and yet, the inspiration would come and words would flow. Other times, the Lord has prompted Zac on how to teach me. Other times I've been lead to a business book or lecture that has inspired me.
I wasn't qualified to run a gym when I bought it, but yet He has been qualifying me along the way. I am so grateful now that Zac didn't quit his job. This has been a beautiful journey of learning and growth. I am in no way perfect and I make the wrong choices a lot. But he is there. He kindly reminds me that there is a better way and then teaches me the way I should do it.
The journey as a team - God and myself - is the best journey to have!
He is with us! He provides all the means necessary! We just have to be willing to step forward trust he will qualify us to whatever he calls us to do!
